The first weekend in October is always reserved for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Los Angeles. It was definitely a day I’ll never forget so let’s start off at the beginning.

The event is usually the same time every year so I definitely suggest signing up for the newsletter to get notifications and that will tell you when tickets are on sale in your city. When the time does come, be sure to buy your tickets immediately because they sell out so fast, especially if you want a more expensive ticket or a sundeck. The tickets are three levels (1) rosé garden, (2) picnic, and (3) the new offering this year -- the La Grande Dame Cabanas.

The other thing that’s important to know is that this is a “dress to impress” event. Everyone comes in what I call “effortless chic lux” outfit that day so you’ll want to follow suit. If not, that’s fine, you can focus on enjoying the experience because it definitely is one.

The Event: First, you drive to or get dropped off at a specific location to get on the shuttle to the park where the match is held. In LA, the match was at Will Rogers State Park. They had multiple big shuttles and small shuttles to take us all there. Lucky for us, all of them had air conditioning. Once we arrived at the park, we were free to move about our side of the park, get some champagne, food from the various food trucks, and buy the specialty merchandise.

The Match: The whole event is for the polo match and I actually did watch the polo match. It was very enjoyable, but it’s also about having a good time with the people you go with. At halftime of the match, you get to go onto the field and replace the divot‘s -- which was my favorite part -- and then once the match is over you get back on the shuttles and head back to the drop off location.

The Champagne: I got the rosé instead of the brute Champagne and it was amazing, as expected. I didn’t get any food while there. I actually made sure to eat prior to coming so I could drink my fair share of champagne. I don’t regret it, but I do wish I tried something from the food trucks. I did want to buy a few items of the merchandise, but the line was really long so I decided to chill, watch the match and drink champagne instead of waiting in the line.

Pro Tip: You do have to bring your own stopper for the champagne or buy one for 20 bucks.

All in all, I had a great time and I met some amazing people and I’ll definitely be back next year!
